It comes as the county is seeing, on average, about 71 bias crime reports every month since the beginning of this year. That’s up from a monthly average of 61 reports in 2022.
The Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office says Charlie Weiss will fill the position, which is partially funded through a federal grant.
Part of his work will include community outreach — educating the public about what bias crimes are and how to report them, as well as connecting victims to advocates and services.
