Salaalee is one of the Awrajjas which formerly constituted the province of Shawaa (Shawaa Kifla Hager). Most of the boundaries of Salaalee are enscribed by the Abbay River and its tributaries like the Jamaa and Mugar Rivers. The capital of the Awrajja, Fiche, is located about 112 kms North-west of Addis Ababa, on the way to Gojjam (see map I).
