This is a very helpful technique to understand ideas in any text. I used this charting idea when I was a student, especially in high school and college. I saw others spending their time in libraries and homes or dorms, studying day and night. I pay attention during lectures and simultaneously create a mental map of concepts, even across disciplines, and when I sit for an examination, I only recall the graph and pinpoint where the question in front of me relates to the graph and then go from there. I also created maps when I read books.
This technique helped me when I was a senior in the undergraduate program at Addis Ababa University’s economics department, when I worked full-time as a management analyst with the Ethiopian Insurance Corporation (EIC) and took 9 courses without attending a single lecture and wrote a senior thesis, yet graduated on top of a 120-student graduating class.
So, I was glad to see Thu Vu’s presentation in this video, and I thought it would be helpful for some to share it.
